All current students and staff are issued with a University campus or staff card for the length of their course or the duration of their employment - this acts as your library card.
Library staff do not make or distribute campus or staff cards. All student campus card queries need to be sent to The Gateway (email@example.com or 0191 515 2222) and all staff card queries need to be sent to HR (0191 515 2055).
Using your campus or staff card
Your card lets you use our self-issue machines to loan books; simply tap your card against the reader or scan the barcode. These machines are available at all times and are especially useful during our self-service hours. Your card also allows access to library buildings during these self-service hours.
Guest library cards
We welcome a range of guests who are eligible to visit during staffed opening hours including alumni and members of the SCONUL Access Scheme. See our website for more information on the services you can use and any ID that you need to bring with you when you visit. If you're eligible to borrow from our collections we will issue you with a paper library card.
