Our special collections are located in the Murray Health building and are made up of unique and rare materials to support teaching and research. To consult any of our collections all that is required is two forms of identification, which include your signature and address. Due to the unique character of the material in our collections, items can only be viewed in the Special Collections Reading Room by appointment. Kate Adie Collection

Kate donated this collection to her hometown university in 2005. The collection comprises a wide range of material relating to her work as a journalist and for the BBC, including reports, correspondence, memoranda, personal notebooks, tapes, videos, and DVDs. 

Sidney Pollard Collection

Sidney Pollard (1925-1998) was an economic and social historian who commanded an international reputation.  

Lord Puttnam Collection

Donated by Lord Puttnam in 2016, this unique archive comprises a range of material relating mainly to his work in the field of education. The material includes diaries, letters, speeches and articles written by Lord Puttnam from the 1980s to 2013.

Quaker Books Collection

This collection includes books by and about Quakers, printed copies of spiritual journals and sufferings, copies of many Swarthmore lectures given between 1909 and 1959, reports of Quaker meetings and conferences, and copies of Quaker periodicals (incomplete runs).

NEEMARC

The North East England Mining Archive and Research Centre (NEEMARC) is a special collection held at The Murray Library. The collection contains records from The National Union of Mineworkers Durham Area (NUM), The North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers (NEIMME) and the Durham branch of the National Association of Colliery Overmen, Deputies and Shotfirers (NACODS).
