We will continue to offer support online with full access to all e-resources that can be accessed remotely. We have extended all book loans until either Sunday 28 February or Monday 1 March. 2020.

March to September 2020

On Monday 23 March, our buildings closed for the first UK national lockdown, as instructed by the UK government. This meant that physical books and study spaces were unavailable during this time. We extended all loans to cover the period our buildings were closed and for any loans already overdue, we froze fines so they did not accrue during this time.

Although physical resources were unavailable, the majority of our online resources were accessible from home. University of Sunderland library staff continued to offer support online through live chat, e-mail, and social media every day from 9am-7pm Monday-Thursday, 9am-5pm Friday, 12-4pm Saturday, and 2-6pm Sunday (excluding bank holidays). Outside these times, live chat support was provided by a global 24/7 co-operative. Study skills support was also provided online.

September to October 2020

Our buildings reopened at the start of September to University of Sunderland students and staff. Measures introduced to keep us safe included: reduced the building capacity, campus card requirement for entry, and rearranged and respaced study spaces.

Students could browse and borrow from our collections, and sit and study in our main floor study areas. Support continued to be provided online.

November to December 2020

Our buildings remained open during the second lockdown (Thursday 5 November to Wednesday 2 December) as education was not included. Students could browse and borrow from our collections, and sit and study in our main floor study areas. We continued to offer support online.

After the second lockdown, the Sunderland area moved into Tier 3 and then Tier 4 at the end of the year. We continued to offer access to our physical resources. Support continued to be offered online.
