The way you log in to Library resources has changed. You will continue to have access to content included in the Library's subscription, but some providers may not recognise some personal settings or saved content.
Will I still be able to access JSTOR?
Yes. Your access to JSTOR is provided through the Library's subscription when you sign in using your University of Sunderland credentials.
Will I lose my personalised content, such as saved searches or alerts?
This cannot be confirmed, so we recommend backing up your saved content now using the steps below.
You may need to sign in or reconnect to your personal JSTOR account. Do not create a new personal account if you already have one. Use the same email address and password as before to reconnect your personal account.
What should I do to save my personalised content?
We are temporarily offering the option to log in via both the 'New Library Authentication Service' and the 'Old Library Authentication Service'.

You should be able to access your saved content by choosing the 'Old Library Authentication Service' option and using your University user ID and password.
If you are not seeing the above options, your browser cookies will have stored the last login method you used. You will need to sign out completely, clear your browser cache and cookies, then close and reopen your browser. Start again from Databases A-Z where possible, rather than from a saved bookmark or link. You can also use an incognito or private browser window to access the databases using the old authentication service, if you would prefer not to clear cache and cookies.
1. If you set up a personal BMJ account, sign in now and check which email or username you use.
2. If you have forgotten your password, reset it to access your saved content.
3. Make a note or screenshot of anything you wish to keep or reproduce. These may include email alerts, alert preferences, saved items, or saved searches.
What should I do next?
1. Log out of JSTOR and clear your browser cookies and cache.
2. Access JSTOR through Databases A-Z. Log in using the 'New Library Authentication Service'. Your username will be userID@student.sunderland.ac.uk (for students) or userID@sunderland.ac.uk (for staff).
3. If you have a personal account, sign in and check your saved searches and alerts.
4. If your saved content is not there, check that you have used the correct email address and password to access your personal account. If saved items are missing, you can recreate them from your backup.
We hope the instructions above are helpful, but please note that we cannot guarantee they will work in every case. They have been prepared to the best of our knowledge, using the information available to us. You should back up, save, or export any personal content wherever possible, in case it needs to be recreated.
