The way you log in to Library resources has changed. You will continue to have access to content included in the Library's subscription, but some providers may not recognise some personal settings or saved content.
Will I still be able to access Mendeley?
Yes, your access to Mendeley will continue.
Will I lose my personalised content, such as saved searches or alerts?
You should be able to keep your saved references by linking your personal Elsevier account. To be safe, we recommend backing up your saved content now using the steps below.
Important
If you have already set up a personal Elsevier account, please do not create a new account. Before logging in using the 'New Library Authentication Service', make sure you have the details of your existing personal Elsevier account, and you have made a backup copy of your saved references.
What should I do to save my personalised content?
We are temporarily offering the option to log in via both the 'New Library Authentication Service' and the 'Old Library Authentication Service'.
You should be able to access your saved content by choosing the 'Old Library Authentication Service' option and using your University user ID and password.
If you are not seeing the above options, your browser cookies will have stored the last login method you used. You will need to sign out completely, clear your browser cache and cookies, then close and reopen your browser. You can also use an incognito or private browser window to access the databases using the old authentication service, if you would prefer not to clear cache and cookies.
1. Go to mendeley.com and click on 'Sign in'.
2. Choose 'Sign in via your organization' and log in using the 'Old Library Authentication Service' option described above.
3. Download your entire Mendeley library as a .ris file and save that somewhere you can find it again. Instructions on how to export your library are available online.
What should I do next?
You will now need to link your personal Elsevier account using the 'New Library Authentication Service' option.
Method 1: If you remember your personal Elsevier account password
1. Open a new or incognito window with no cookies or cache saved. Go to mendeley.com and click on 'Sign in'. Choose 'Sign in via your organization' and log in using your personal Elsevier account credentials. These are different to your usual University of Sunderland login credentials.
2. In another new window with no cookies or cache saved or an incognito window, go to mendeley.com and click on 'Sign in'. Choose 'Sign in via your organization' and log in using the 'New Library Authentication Service' option. Your username will be userID@student.sunderland.ac.uk (for students) or userID@sunderland.ac.uk (for staff).
3. You should be given the option to 'link your account'. Accept that option, and your Mendeley library should appear.
4. When using Mendeley from now on, always choose to log in using the 'New Library Authentication Service' option.
Method 2: If you cannot remember your personal Elsevier account password, or if you do not have a personal account
1. Open a new window with no cookies or cache saved or an incognito window. Go to mendeley.com and click on 'Sign in'. Choose 'Sign in via your organization' and log in using the 'Old Library Authentication Service' option.
2. Open your Mendeley library and click on the initials in the lower part of the screen to see your Mendeley account settings. Scroll down to see the change password option and follow the instructions to change your password.
3. In another new window with no cookies or cache saved or an incognito window, go to mendeley.com and click on 'Sign in'. Choose 'Sign in via your organization' and log in using the 'New Library Authentication Service' option. Your username will be userID@student.sunderland.ac.uk (for students) or userID@sunderland.ac.uk (for staff).
4. You should be given the option to 'link your account'. Accept that option, and your Mendeley library should appear
5. When using Mendeley from now on, always choose to log in using the 'New Library Authentication Service' option.
If the account linking does not work
If the above steps do not work for you, it is likely that you have already created a new account with the new login method and are unable to retroactively link your accounts. You will need to recreate your Library from the downloaded .ris file you have already created:
1. Go to mendeley.com and click on 'Sign in'.
2. Choose 'Sign in via your organization' and log in using the 'New Library Authentication Service' option. Your username will be userID@student.sunderland.ac.uk (for students) or userID@sunderland.ac.uk (for staff).
3. You will see a blank Mendeley library. Follow these steps to import your previous Mendeley library of references into your new account
4. When using Mendeley from now on, always choose to log in using the 'New Library Authentication Service' option.
