To access our subscriptions, please choose the Shibboleth, Institutional, or Academic​ option. 

If you have studied at another institution, you may have used or heard of OpenAthens. Both OpenAthens and Shibboleth are access-management/authentication systems. At the University of Sunderland, we use the Shibboleth, Institutional, or Academic option. This does not affect the resources you can access in our subscriptions; if you are a current student or staff member you can still access anything we purchase.

You can log into external sites using your University user ID and password by choosing the Shibboleth, Institutional, or Academic option. Simply follow the on-screen instructions and log in using your University user ID and password. Please note that you will still only be able to access content for which we have paid.

Separately, our single-sign-on system uses OpenAthens so you may still see references to this when using our systems. However when logging into subscriptions such as databases and journals, you must use the Shibboleth, Institutional, or Academic log in option.
