Answer

If you are using a Mac, you may experience problems accessing our e-resources and receive a security certificate error message. This is not a problem with our resources but is a problem with the local cached certificate on your machine (all University certificates have been changed and are fully up to date).

Sadly this issue is not unique to the University and is being seen across the Higher Education sector, and only seems to be affecting Mac users using Chrome.

The University's Technical Services team have been briefed about the problem and have asked that you try the following command first:

  • Open Terminal
  • Run "crlrefresh rpvv” (no speech marks)

If it still doesn’t work, you will need to contact the Technical Services team directly so they can talk you through a possible fix. Please see this webpage for how to contact the Technical Services service desk: ts.sunderland.ac.uk/contact-us
