At the end of March, we announced that we'll be transforming Library at Murray. This project represents a significant investment and our continued commitment to enhancing our spaces, following thousands of student suggestions and comments. You can read our announcement and the key improvements we will make in this news article. To ensure that the refurbishment runs as efficiently as possible, Library at Murray will be closed from summer 2025 to early 2026.
Our three other Library spaces will continue to be open for all students to use. Each space has fixed computers, printers, and lapsafes for laptop borrowing. There is a range of different study spaces and several bookable study rooms and booths for students. You can view the opening times for each space on our website.
Located on level one of the Pasteur Building, this library features a range of spaces and rooms at the heart of the John Dawson Sciences Complex.
Situated in the Prospect Building, this library offers scenic views across the River Wear.
Located on level three of the David Goldman Technology Centre, this space emphasises privacy with smaller bookable rooms and individual study desks, with views of University Square.
We've arranged for additional study spaces, equipped with desks and seating, at the following locations. We'll also increase the number of study desks and PCs in Library at Pasteur. For silent or hushed study, you can book one of our study rooms and booths at Library at Pasteur. If you visit the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter's, we have a silent room in St Peter's Library and more bookable study rooms at Library at David Goldman.
When the works commence, we plan to add additional study desks to this space with comfortable chairs.

There will be plentiful seating, but please note that not all seats will have power sockets.

If you find it more convenient to visit other academic libraries, especially if they are closer to your home address, you may be eligible to join the SCONUL Access scheme. This allows you to use other academic libraries as a guest, provided you are registered in an eligible program and have no overdue items or outstanding library charges with us.
Please note: The pop-up spaces above, Library at Pasteur, and Library at David Goldman are only available to current students of the University of Sunderland. During the Library at Murray transformation, there are no alternative study spaces for guests at City Campus. If you are a member of our guest community, you are welcome to use the study spaces at St Peter's Library.
